Tonight, just head for the second star on the right, and keep on til morning
You can find the pattern here:
These patterns are released for free, and have been designed as a homage to the original works. All rights remain with their respective owners. People have asked me how they could show some appreciation for the time/effort involved, for which I have set up a ko-fi account. This is entirely voluntary, and much appreciated.
Please note:
Disney’s Peter Pan, while a classic of the Disney catalog, is problematic in some of it’s representations. Particularly of Indigenous American cultures. While those aspects are not depicted in the SAL itself, for obvious reasons, I don’t want to ignore the issue when including the film in the SAL. When I was selecting films to be included in the SAL, I was initially selecting for two stitchalongs; a Heroes version and a Villains version (the Villians one got canned due to a creative slump – thanks Covid Lockdown). So all the films selected had to have a strong/popular/iconic villain as well, and Captain Hook was high on that list. Representation and diversity is important to me, and I do try to be mindful of it in my projects. I tried to make sure that the heroes (and the villains) were a mix of male/female/animal, as well as trying to make sure that the (relatively) rare films with main characters of colour would be represented in some sort of way (there was the addition of trying to cover a mix of older classic movies, and newer releases as well). I will admit to have been in two minds about including Peter Pan in the SAL at all, because of it’s problematic nature. In the end, I somewhat opted to almost look at the “You Can Fly” scene by itself in isolation, as it is so iconic of classic Disney in and of itself, to the point it’s almost used to represent Classic Disney by itself. And admittedly not being able to get this instalments concept of how it fits into the SAL as a whole out of my mind.
I know that Peter Pan, for many is nostalgic, and for many it is problematic. I’d please ask that all of us recognise this, acknowledging that while it may be part of many of our childhoods, that we can now see how the stereotypes depicted can be harmful, learn from histories mistakes and not perpetuate those stereotypes. Above all I’d ask that we are all respectful to each other while taking part in the SAL.
And for those that are doing “watchalongs” while you stitch the Magic Kingdom SAL, please reflect on this, and maybe use it to spark a discussion on representation in old movies with those you watch it with.
